SHOP AMOMENTO :
This is the first time doing a pop-up store together with SHOP AMOMENTO in Seoul. While preparing for this pop-up, what kind of work did you do and what part did you consider most important?

PIEN :
For this pop-up with SHOP AMOMENTO, I wanted to shed light on the process that happens behind the scenes at Pien Studios. When I started my career as a textile designer, I discovered I truly enjoy the process of making. A process allows for experimentation and the acceptance of mistakes. The small framed textile pieces are representing the early stages of my design process. When making a small textile piece, it feels like drawing without a purpose. I allow myself to play and make mistakes. Often this leads to new design inspiration for color and material combinations. The yarns I use are mostly secondhand and come from antique stores or flea markets in the countryside of the Netherlands, where I grew up. For the pop-up shop, I wanted to show how important these weaves are for me and the team, to create new fashion products over the past years. Therefore, I decided to re-make my small woven fabrics into giant versions so my love for textiles could be shared with our community at SHOP AMOMENTO and Seoul. Together with our team, we knitted the letters of SHOP AMOMENTO into the textile pieces, making them exclusively for the store.


SHOP AMOMENTO : 서울에서의 첫 팝업 스토어를 SHOP AMOMENTO와 함께 진행해보았는데, 팝업을 준비하는동안 어떤 작업들을 하였고 중요하게 생각하는 것은 무엇이였나요?

PIEN : 이번 SHOP AMOMENTO 팝업에서는 Pien Studios의 무대 뒤에서 일어나는 과정을 보여주고 싶었습니다. 제가 섬유 디자이너로 일을 시작했을 때, 저는 만드는 과정을 진정으로 즐긴다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 과정은 실험과 실수의 수용을 가능하게 합니다. 작은 액자에 넣어진 직물 조각들은 제 디자인 과정의 초기 단계를 보여줍니다. 작은 직물 조각을 만들 때, 마치 목적 없이 그림을 그리는 것 같은 느낌이 듭니다. 저는 제 자신이 놀고 종종 실수할 수 있도록 자유롭게 작업을 합니다. 이것은 색상과 재료의 조합에 대한 새로운 디자인 영감으로 이어집니다. 제가 사용하는 실을 대부분 중고로 제가 자란 네덜란드 시골의 골동품 가게나 벼룩 시장에서 가져온 것입니다. 팝업 스토어에서는 이 직조들이 저와 팀에게 지난 수년간 새로운 패션 상품을 만드는 데 얼마나 중요한지 보여주고 싶었습니다. 그래서 저는 작은 직물을 거대한 버전으로 다시 제작하여 SHOP AMOMENTO와 서울. 저희 팀과 함께 SHOP AMOMENTO의 글자를 직물 조각으로 만들어 매장 전용으로 만들었습니다.

SHOP AMOMENTO :
For this pop-up, we hung a framed textile work in the corridor of SHOP AMOMENTO. Could you please describe us about this work and the inspiration when you create this work?

PIEN :
Each framed textile is made without me knowing what it will look like when I start it. I've made many textiles over the years, but only a few make it into the final selection. That's why I've chosen to number the textiles rather than giving them proper names. Sometimes I spend months on one piece, like the red/pink textile. I began it during a winter holiday with my family in Switzerland, but it took a long time to finish because I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. Now, it's one of my most favorite pieces I have made! It's simple, but I love the small imperfections it shows.

SHOP AMOMENTO : 이번 팝업에서 SHOP AMOMENTO 통로에 액자 프레임에 넣은 텍스타일 작품을 걸어두었는데, 이 작품에 대한 설명과 제작에 들어갈 때 받았던 영감에 대해 말씀해 주실 수 있을까요?

PIEN : 틀에 박힌 각각의 직물들은 제가 처음에 봤을 때 어떤 모습일지 모르는 상태에서 만들어졌습니다. 지난 몇 년간 많은 직물들을 만들었지만, 몇몇만이 최종 선택을 할 수 있기 때문에 적절한 이름을 붙이지 않고 번호를 매기는 것을 선택했습니다. 저는 가끔 빨간색/분홍색 직물 같은 하나의 작품에 몇 달을 보내기도 합니다. 스위스에서 가족들과 겨울 휴가를 보내면서 작업을 시작했는데, 마음에 들지 확신이 없어서 완성하는 데 시간이 오래 걸렸습니다. 지금은 제가 만든 작품 중에 가장 좋아하는 작품입니다! 간단하지만, 저는 그 작은 불완전함이 너무 좋아요.
